A lowball poker is a particular type of draw poker.  The low hand splits the pot in this game.  Five facedown cards are dealt to each player, a betting round follows after the players see their cards, the players should either bet or fold.

In a lowball poker A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest of the hands. This straight need not necessarily be a flush of the same suit.

Some of the common variants of lowball poker are:-

• Oklahoma lowball poker
• Triple draw lowball poker

In Texas lowball poker the dealer initially deals 3 face down cards followed by a round of betting.  During the first round of betting the players can either call or fold based on their hope of winning the game.  When this betting round is over players discard the cards they do not need and they are dealt with the number of cards they did discard.  No player can throw all of the cards.  They can discard a maximum of 2 cards.  After having the cards replaced for all players a betting round sets in.  Any player who does not wish to continue can fold and the remaining players can place their bets.  Then a showdown occurs and the lowers of the hands win.  A-2-3 will be the best of the lowest hands.  However A-A-2 will not be eligible.  If there is more than one player with low hands, the pot is split between the two.

In Oklahoma lowball poker the dealer initially deals 1 face up and 1 face down card after an ante.  The dealing is followed by betting and the dealing of third street, fourth street and Fifth street takes place with betting after each street card.  All the street cards are dealt face up following the last betting after the fifth street showdown occurs. The low hand initiates the betting after each dealt, straights and flushes are counted.

In Triple draw poker 5 cards are dealt face down followed by betting and three draws there after.  After every draw there is a betting and the show down follows.
