Lowball poker is played similar to 5 card stud just that the winning hand is the best low.  Lowball games are there in almost all variants of poker like the holdem, Omaha, stud and draw.  There are also partial lowball games like the holdem high-low, Omaha high-low, Stud high-low etcetera where a part of the profit goes to the low rank.

You need to rethink about what you actually hold to participate in the tight lowball game.  The best kind of card in the board might not necessarily be the best for you if you are sitting with all the high cards in hand.  In many situations when you are having some low pairs if the board is going to hit high, then you might feel bad about it because you are losing chance for the high, but if you are playing a high-low variant you need to count on trying to stay up, in case you happen to qualify for the low hand split in the pot.  Scoop is possible only with Ace hands, but every time it is not true.

In a lowball game there are more chances that there can be another qualifying low in the table that has equal ranking in such cases the high split goes to the player that wins the pot and the lowball half of the pot is quartered between the two people holding the low rank hand.  It is for this reason that most of the high-low games have more than one winner and you have a better reason to stay up in these games, because something is always better than nothing.

Well, even when you are playing for the low card ranking you must have to focus your thoughts about what card will make you a nut low winning hand at any point in time.  You need to also compare about probable nut low betters in the table when you are standing there with lowball ranking hand that is strong enough to avoid bad beats.

Slow playing winning hands is true and important in lowball games also.  You need to be sure that you estimate your implied odds and pocket strength and make your plays accordingly.   Most of the betting psychology is the same relative to hand strength, position and opponent nature the only variation lies in that the game is played for low ranking.  If you are not getting dealt with low cards, better fold when you should
