You can learn poker from CD-ROMS, Poker books, internet resources and by getting tips from your friends.  However the best of the routes to learn poker is with real time experience and playing many and many tables with skilled hands online and offline.  When you are in the learning stage, you might face with multiple losing hands, you need to be patient enough to analyze the strategies behind the losing to develop your skills any further.  Another way to learn poker is to be the audience watching real champions at play, you might learn various tricks and bluffing methodologies better by such than by learning each step after a steep burn.

If you are just in to learn poker you need to understand the rank of the cards and the suits.  A-K-Q-J-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2 is the ranks of the card from high to low. A is the highest and 2 is the lowest normally.  There is no ranking for the suits; however in some games the raking starts with heart with the highest value, diamond less high than heart, clubs less than diamond and spade with the least value.

You need to know which combination is a poker in a game when you are out to learn poker rules.  You need to know between:-
• You need to know the betting structure like limit versus no limit versus pot limit poker
• You need to know what is a high rank hand and a low rank hand

When you learn poker you must understand the basics of the different betting structures and strategies.  You need to know:-
• When to fold? You can fold if you are very sure you have got a very bad hand that can never win.
• When to call? You can call if you see some chances of making a hand with the subsequent betting rounds and with some future street cards.  You need to learn poker odds to estimate the real strength of your cards.
• When to raise? You can raise the call if you feel you have a better chance of winning or even if you are trying to be aggressive and trying to bluff your opponent.
• When to re-raise?  Re-raising is meant for those tight and aggressive players who are dead sure about the odds.

When you learn poker the first thing you need to learn is when to fold, when to bet, and when to risk playing with bad hands.  Learning these areas will let you have your control strings with you.
